The next phase of photography has commenced in Malaga, Spain on Salon Pictures upcoming feature documentary My Design Life, the untold story of the unique and extraordinary creativity of Frank Stephenson, one of the most important and influential car designers working today. Frank’s designs range from high-concept hypercars such as the $1.1 million McLaren P1 and Maserati MC12 to re-imagined ‘everyday’ design icons like the new Mini and Fiat 500.

Directed by Helena Coan and produced by Nick Taussig and Paul Van Carter of Salon (CHURCHILL, McQUEEN) the film will be a singular and charming portrait of Frank, as a man whose life is inseparable from his work. From his first ever design through to his seminal work at McLaren, the film will focus on the mechanics of Frank’s mind and the development of his creative process. This is the story of a designer whose infectious enthusiasm and extreme dedication has led him to succeed beyond the automotive world, a person whose imagination and almost childlike awe of the world has reshaped the industry.

Nick Manzi, Head of Acquisitions and Production for Lionsgate UK comments, “It’s a real pleasure to be working with Nick and Paul at Salon again on a film about one of the great designers of his generation, a man who has changed all of our lives, with a young director, Helena Coan, with a unique talent and vision.”

Jonathan Ford, EVP of Sales, Distribution at Kew Media Group comments, ““We’re very pleased to secure international distribution rights to this fascinating and inspiring new feature documentary from Salon Pictures, revealing the little-known story of a designer who has become an absolute leader in his field. From high-end supercars for iconic brands to celebrated classics that can be seen every day on streets in every country, Frank Stephenson’s unique talents have influenced automotive – and product – design around the world, ensuring that this film will be a compelling watch for global audiences.”

My Design Life is fully financed by Head Gear Films, with Phil Hunt serving as Executive Producer and Tom Harberd as Associate Producer.

Salon’s upcoming releases include McQueen, set to world premiere next month at TriBeca, released through Bleecker Street in the US, and Fred, set for release through Lionsgate UK in Q2, 2018.
